How does coaching differ to using a Financial Advisor?
I’m sorry this is quite a long answer, but I’ve tried to make it as short and factual as possible, so here goes: The first key difference is that a financial advisor normally earns their money from the products they provide advice on, following an information gathering exercise or “fact-finding” process. . They may have a restricted range of products they can recommend unless they are fully independent. It’s always worth asking how independent they are even if they are referred to as independent advisors. In comparison, as a coach, I earn my income from hourly fee based coaching. I do not sell financial products and that means there should be absolutely no conflict of interest. This was one of my key motivations in becoming a financial coach – to help individuals that wanted impartial help, and an alternative/complementary route to reaching their financial goals. Please note however, there may be instances where I earn an affiliate income from links to service providers and their products from the masterMONEYsimply website. Where this is the case, my intention is to provide full disclosure in order that clients are aware of that affiliation. The second difference relates to regulation and protection. Financial advisors should be fully regulated and offer protection when things go wrong as a result of following their advice. Be aware however, there are no guarantees when it comes to recovering any losses suffered at their hands and it may be difficult to prove. Regulation may also provide little protection in the case of fraud, and it does happen. I like to think most financial advisors are honest decent people with a commitment to serving their clients best interests, but it’s important to always question their motives and to ask yourself, whether a conflict of interest might exist. This was another motivation for becoming a coach, because I believe the best form of protection comes from education and self-awareness. As a coach, I am not regulated and do not provide financial redress for any actions you take from the education or information I provide. It is my objective to provide the best education and guidance in order that you are informed enough to make your own best decisions and accept the responsibility that comes from that. By being part of the masterMONEYsimply community you also have the opportunity to share knowledge, ideas and experiences within the community that hopefully will reduce your chances of suffering from fraud or conflicts of interest. Fraud does happen and my aim is to help the public avoid instances such as this https://www.moneymarketing.co.uk/norfolk-advisers-jailed-17m-fraud/ The third difference is the methodology used to achieve your financial goals. A financial advisor will take you through a fact-finding process that involves full disclosure of your financial and personal information. This can feel like an intrusive and uncomfortable exercise. This is not how I operate as a coach. There is no intrusive or detailed fact finding process. I will work with the information you actively and willingly want to share with me. My aim is to help you reach your goals and achieve that with the minimum amount of personal information gathering or intrusion into your personal finances. Obviously there will be a certain degree of information that will need to be shared in order to help you complete the Journey Planner. Emphasis will be focused more on the process and providing factual information, ideas and scenarios that you can work on and apply to your situation.
How long will it take to complete the Journey Planner?
The aim is to complete the Journey Planner over 4 separate hourly sessions, one every week. This may take longer or shorter depending on your personal situation. The 4 hours package aims to provide enough information and support to enable you to complete the Journey Planner. The sessions are scheduled as a minimum every week in order to give you the necessary time to go away, digest and be prepared for the next stage of the journey.
Who is the Journey Planner aimed for, and do I need to know much about money and finance to complete it?
The Journey Planner is aimed for UK tax-payers, although the process is relevant to anyone in the world. It does not matter your level of financial knowledge or experience to be coached and complete the Journey Planner. It is relevant and beneficial for all ages and levels of experience, self-employed and employed individuals alike.
How do I know that the information I do share will be safe and kept confidential?
A confidentiality agreement will be signed to protect you against the disclosure of your personal information to others. Any personal data you share or collected is owned by you. Any information held can and will be deleted or removed at your request.
Will the cost of coaching be worth it?
You will receive enormous value, both monetary and personal, from the coaching programme and completion of the Journey Planner, including the many benefits described below. On a strictly financial sense, I expect you to easily save, and/or grow your wealth significantly above the costs of the coaching you receive from me.
Do I need coaching or can I do this alone?
Yes, you can go it alone if you wish. If you want to do that, I recommend you follow the regular updates and posts featured on masterMONEYsimply. Alongside that, please join the masterMONEYsimply Facebook group to learn and share knowledge with other members.

What is your background and why should I trust you to coach me?
During my 20 plus years career I have worked for many financial services related companies. In the early part of my career I was a tied financial consultant for a well-known and established industry name, with the full industry qualifications that come with being a financial advisor. Since then I have “for my sins” worked briefly as a penny-share dealer, then IT person for a large investment bank. Later I worked over 7 years as a corporate trainer for a global financial data provider, before working abroad in Switzerland for 5-and-a half years, initially as a corporate trainer and later in a business development role for an innovative start up. Alongside my varied professional and financial services based career, I have over 30 years experience of managing my own financial affairs. My motivation for being a financial coach is to help others learn from the mistakes that I have made managing my own personal finances and investments, and the frustration of finding it difficult to receive impartial financial help. I have an enormous passion for finance and investing, and strive towards continuous learning and improvement. My principles and investment strategies are aligned to the teachings found in the book “Smarter Investing” by Tim Hale. I recommend anyone to read this book to help you on your financial journey. For the last 2 and more years I have studied and worked to develop the Journey Planner process including develop the masterMONEYsimply business. I have sort to design a simple process for anyone to manage their finances using a logical path, because I never found an easy guide to follow that covered the complete gamut of financial products. That was my impetus to design the Journey Planner process and help others by following the pathway. This process is unique to masterMONEYsimply. Regarding trust, this is something that can only be earned over a long period by providing honest, valuable, and helpful information. That is what I intend to achieve, and I realise that any trust you give to me is a precious and valuable asset to hold. I thank you for offering me your trust and aim to continually honour and respect that trust, always recognising the fact that trust can be destroyed in a moment. You can find out more about me, and masterMONEYsimply in the “About” section of this website.
